Green Lantern’s without a doubt one of my favs when I was a kid growing up!  I couldn’t get enough of GL comic books.  It became GL in a different way than other superheroes…an iconic ring chose him.  Don’t get me wrong, I als0 loved the other superheroes like TheFlash, the Hulk, WonderWoman, the Dark Knight-Batman, Superman, etc…  But Hal Jordan was the first human to be picked by the most powerful weapon in the world…the emerald ring that allowed only the imagination of the wearer to control it.

Every Green Lantern wields the power ring giving the GL dominance over the elements and materials of this world.  I am sure that there was a temptation to use the power ring for evil purposes but that is why the ring chooses who it will…the man/women/alien must have the discipline, fearless mindset, and the iron will to control it.  The Guardians, those who created the ring and the Green Lantern Corp, oversees the largest inter galactic force of law officers the universe has ever known.

Some quick facts about the GL superhero:

-In the 1950′s, the Green Lantern character was changed to Hal Jordan, test pilot.

-HJ was the one of the founding members of the the Justice League of America.

-Nearly every one of the Green Lantern’s remained good friends with The Flash.

Some things about the new GreenLantern movie, Green Lantern Movie Costume, the power ring and the oath…

First, I am pumped that the movie has hit the screens June 17, 2011!  I like Ryan Reynolds and when I heard that he was playing the lead, I thought he would bring his sense of humor to the role and he has not disappointed.  The movie is an introduction into how Reynold’s character, testpilot Hal Jordan first seen in the comic book series penned by DC comic creators, becomes the 1rst human to have a power ring pick him to wear it.

I have always thought it was interesting that HJ always showed some healthy respect and fear of the power that he had and didn’t mind making it known at times.  I think Ryan Reynolds(RR) captured that healthy fear.  The other Green Lanterns always looked at it as a weakness…they always seemed annoyed by the Earth’s Green Lantern as being the ugly duckling so to speak of the corp.  Some obviously eventually befriended the Earth GLs but I think the Earth’s emerald ones total rise to leadership is because they learned that no matter what their fears entailed in every challenge, they rose to the occasion and conquered their fear…they didn’t have to “fake-it-to-make-it”!

Let’s talk about the movie’s costume:

Many writers have made a huge deal out of the costume…I think it looked great!  It’s CGI and you expected it but I do not think it is as bad as a number of writers have said it is.  You can see it on the cover of the July 23, 2011 Entertainment Weekly. You can’t help but notice that the costume looks like it is painted on. That is due to it being digitized on to Reynold’s body.  The actual filming costume that Ryan wears is full of little sensors…the same technique used by pro athletes when diagnosing the functioning moves they do in the video games.  It is a simple process to convert what the sensors ‘see’ and then add them by the CGI tech guys.  Some say Ryan Reynolds looks silly…I beg to differ! :)

Now, how about that ring!…

How cool would it be to own one of these things…whatever you mind can conceive, the ring makes it!  Gatling guns, catapult, shields, etc… the list is endless! But here is the kicker…just because you can doesn’t mean you should…power that can corrupt.  BUT what I like about Hal Jordan owning a power ring with limitless power is that he realizes what he has, as the old superhero saying goes, “With great power comes great responsibility!”  (Where did I hear that before Spidey? ) :)

OK…some attributes of the ring:

-allows the user to fly;

-surrounds the user with a shield to protect him/her from all environments;

-can assist the user to travel through hyper-space;

-it is a unique computer, i.e. translates any language, works out any problem and offers multiple solutions, and can gain more power to compute histories as old as time by connecting with the primary lantern on Oa;

-it can track energy sources and look for more specific objects not matter how tiny…even to the molecular level!;

-can power other objects;

-can be used as a laser;

-can duplicate itself!…I’ll take one please! :)

-can still be controlled even though not on the Green Lantern’s finger;

-can be called to the rightful owner no matter how far separated from each other;

Some things it can’t do…

-somewhat and sometimes powerless against yellow objects (for a full explanation of this, Click Here and scroll down to the heading Limitations the 2nd paragraph!);

-intentionally kill someone;

-whatever planet the bearer of the ring is from, the ring must be charged each rotation of the planet;
